Welcome to the New SmartGoat Website!

Screenshot that shows our old design and our new one Before & After I’ve always said you can tell how busy a web designer is by how long it’s been since they changed the design of their own site. If they’re changing their own site every six months they’re not building sites for anybody else.

So, yes, it has been a long time since we updated our own website, but that’s a good thing.

Of course, it’s hard to convince clients of the importance of frequently updating a website when your own site has “News” from three years ago. So, with a little extra time now that we’re both working full-time here, we have finally relaunched our own website.

Some Highlights

Besides the new look, we’ve incorporated a lot of the best practices that we encourage our clients to use:

  • Standards-based design — The underlying code is based on accepted web standards for easy maintenance and maximum compatibility.
  • Accessibility — This site conforms to WCAG 1.0 as corrected by the WCAG Samurai Errata.
  • Usability — Navigation is simple, and important information and links are repeated in different locations throughout the site. Also, text on each page is broken up by headings and lists that make it easy to scan.
  • Search-engine friendly — Keyword-rich headings and appropriate meta-data on each page make Google happy.
  • Updated content — Our regularly-updated blog, as well as our lists of upcoming events and interesting articles on each page, keep the site fresh and give visitors a reason to come back.

Not familiar with some of these ideas? Don’t worry, we’ll be covering them in more detail in the coming weeks.

Under the Hood

Powered by Movable Type 4Our website is powered by Movable Type, a premier CMS disguised as blogging software. We’ve been using MT for years, and the recently released 4.0 version is a huge leap forward for the system. We’ll be writing more about what we like and don’t like about MT, as well as other projects where we use this software.

Keeping Up

We’ve got a lot of exciting projects in the works. If you would like to keep up with what we’re doing as well as learn more about web marketing and search engine optimization, I recommend subscribing to our newsletter — the subscription form is on the left-hand side of every page of this site. Or, you can subscribe to our blog feed in your favorite feed reader.

Take a Look Around

We hope you’ll spend a little time browsing our new site and seeing what we have to offer. If you would like to know more about the site or about us, please feel free to drop us a line.
